Climate technology projects require significant capital and need to be deployed at a faster pace. Achieving net zero emissions by 2050 will require $9.2 trillion in annual spending on physical assets, trillions more than is spent currently, and on the scale up of innovative climate solutions. As of November 2024, only 10% of the climate technologies needed to reach net zero had been deployed.

CREO works with its members to accelerate the deployment of climate technologies, including in first-of-a-kind (FOAK) projects. CREO’s FOAK and Project Finance Working Group supports members investing in climate technology projects, such as battery recycling plants or sustainable aviation fuel facilities. Participants in the Working Group finance projects by providing debt, equity, or grants. This funding is critical for many climate companies scaling their technology, which can have difficulty raising funds for new plants and facilities (i.e., the “second valley of death” or the “missing middle“).

The Working Group provides CREO members with a platform to exchange insights, best practices, and investment opportunities.

Focus Areas:

  • Project Dealflow: Share opportunities with other members and view a pipeline of projects from CREO’s existing portfolio or collected from CREO’s intake form
  • Market Intelligence: Discuss funding strategies, case studies of creative financing solutions, and relevant events
  • Initiative Development: Explore, workshop and adopt efforts that address project financing hurdles (e.g., seeding new climate-specific platforms, aggregating project performance data)

Participation Criteria:

  • CREO membership
  • Prior project equity, debt, or grant investment as a CREO member
  • Commitment of, or goal to, deploy approximately $20 million per year in projects during the next three years
  • Willingness to share expertise and collaborate with other members
  • Pledge to attend a one-hour meeting every two months and report new project investments every four months

Engagement and Programming:

Members can invite up to three representatives with project investment experience to join the working group.

Our team welcomes outreach from members looking to learn more about our Working Groups.
