The CREO Derisking Emerging Markets Working Group (EMWG) aims toadvance capital deployment across energy, industry, mobility,food and land transitions in Emerging Markets (EMs).
Led by Anna-Liisa Goggs, Regional President of EMEA and India, and Taline Filipovic, Investment Associate, the EMWG unites members with varying levels of expertise and experience across diverse markets, integrating philanthropic, commercial, and institutional capital. The EMWG’s collective goal is to mobilize $500 million in private capital towards high-impact climate initiatives in targeted countries by 2028.
Key Focus Areas:
The EMWG channels capital deployment across nine focus countries that represent a broad spectrum of emerging markets, from those ready for immediate investment to those requiring additional support. These include:
- Lower-Middle Income Countries: India, Vietnam, Kenya
- Upper-Middle Income Countries: Brazil, Gabon, Indonesia, Mexico, South Africa
- High-Income Country: Chile
Participation Criteria:
- CREO membership
- Commitment to deploying at least $5 million annually, totaling $15 million over a three-year period
- Interest in co-investing, sharing investment profiles, and collaborating with other members to accelerate collaboration
- Engagement in advancing sustainable solutions and climate-focused initiatives in Emerging Markets
- Openness to learning and transferring insights across geographies and sharing consistent impact and investment data to assist decision-making.
Investment opportunities span clean energy, sustainable agriculture, biodiversity initiatives, and innovative approaches like debt-for-nature swaps—balancing immediate impact with long-term sustainable growth.
Engagement and Programming:
The EMWG meets quarterly, with in-person gatherings during CREO’s Global Meetings in May and October and two additional virtual sessions. Upcoming programming includes a Spotlight on investing in Latin America (Virtual in January) and a Spotlight on investing in Africa (In-person at the Global Meeting in Iceland, May 2025).
Through collaborative programming and targeted investments, the EMWG empowers members to make measurable progress towards climate solutions while unlocking the potential of emerging markets.
