Hydrogen is essential to industry today and will be in even greater demand for heavy-duty transportation, microgrids, climate resilience, and other uses going forward. Yet the challenge is producing affordable, low-carbon hydrogen. Geological hydrogen offers the potential to be produced at the U.S. Department of Energy’s “moonshot goal” of $1/kg at the lowest carbon intensity, becoming a source of energy rather than just a carrier of energy derived from fossil fuels or renewables.
