The floating offshore wind resource is massive, 71 TW per the World Bank, many times the world’s current electricity demand. However, due to additional cost and complexity when compared to onshore and fixed bottom wind power this resource is largely untapped.

Despite the challenges, there is widespread and growing support for floating offshore wind as a natural step in the energy transition as viable onshore and fixed offshore locations become developed with existing technology.

This session, covering the recent report from Aly Rose and David Siap, discussed the emerging opportunities in floating offshore wind with a focus on technological innovations that enable low-cost and rapid deployment.
